Wifi-enabled Laptops Kill Sperm
In a report in the venerable medical journal Fertility and Sterility, Argentinian scientists describe how they got semen samples from 29 healthy men, placed a few drops under a laptop connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi and then hit download.
Four hours later, the semen was, eh, well-done.
A quarter of the sperm were no longer swimming around, for instance, compared to just 14 percent from semen samples stored at the same temperature away from the computer.
And nine percent of the sperm showed DNA damage, three-fold more than the comparison samples.
The culprit? Electromagnetic radiation generated during wireless communication, say Conrado Avendano of Nascentis Medicina Reproductiva in Cordoba and colleagues.
“Our data suggest that the use of a laptop computer wirelessly connected to the internet and positioned near the male reproductive organs may decrease human sperm quality,”
they write in their report.
“At present we do not know whether this effect is induced by all laptop computers connected by Wi-Fi to the internet or what use conditions heighten this effect.”
A separate test with a laptop that was on, but not wirelessly connected, found negligible EM radiation from the machine alone.
The findings fuel concerns raised by a few other research teams.
Some have found that radiation from cell phones creates feeble sperm in the lab, for example. And last year urologists described how a man’s sitting with a laptop balanced on his knees can crank up the temperature of his scrotum to levels that aren’t good for sperm. (See Reuters Health story of November 8, 2010, at Is your laptop cooking your testicles? | Reuters.)
So between the heat and the radiation from today’s electronic devices, testicles would seem to be hard-pressed.
But that is not at all clear, said Dr. Robert Oates, who has managed to father two kids despite having both a laptop and an iPad.
The president of the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology, Oates told Reuters Health he doesn’t believe laptops are a significant threat to male reproductive health.
“This is not real-life biology, this is a completely artificial setting,” he said about the new study. “It is scientifically interesting, but to me it doesn’t have any human biological relevance.”
He added that so far, no study has ever looked at whether laptop use has any influence on fertility or pregnancy outcomes.
“Suddenly all of this angst is created for real-life actual persons that doesn’t have to be,”
said Oates, also of Boston Medical Center.
According to the American Urological Association, nearly one in six couples in the US have trouble conceiving a baby, and about half the time the man is at the root of the problem.
While the impact of modern technology is still murky, lifestyle does matter, researchers say.
Earlier this month, a report in Fertility and Sterility showed that men who eat a diet rich in fruit and grains and low in red meat, alcohol and coffee have a better shot at getting their partner pregnant during fertility treatment. (See Reuters Health story of November 18, 2011, at Your sperm are what you eat, study suggests | Reuters.)
“You should be keeping yourself healthy,” including staying lean, eating healthy foods, exercising, not taking drugs and not smoking, agreed Oates.
And for those laptop worries, he mused, “I don’t know how many people use laptops on their laps anyway.”

They are on the final test trials for birth control for men, so this just have to do for now.
I got two boyz, and two girlz,i’m good,i don’t want any more,so imma sleep wit the laptop between my leg’s…lol
lmao, that sh1t probably causes cancer in the long run tho
@Hahz U probably right
I saw this same thing on youtube during an islamic summit called “Secrets of the Khazar Empire.” all of this radiation and low frequency radio waves from cell phones, wifi, scanners, etc. kills off sperm. But the here is the kicker: it kills off the Y chromosomes (the male child creator) faster because it is lighter. X chromosomes (female) are naturally heavier because women are born with all of the eggs (ovums) they will ever have while sperm from males are created every second. Hence, more girls than boys, and therefore, a more docile and controllable human race. It is said by 2050, there will be 50 to 1 ratio of women to men. The Muslims believe that men around the world will have to take on several wives in the future to prevent too many ‘baby daddy’s’. And before any female gets upset about the ‘docile’ comment, this technique has been used by those in power for centuries to prevent rebellions. That’s why female black slaves were place in positions of authority over the males.
@prince, so you’re saying “they” are deliberately manipulating population control to where females outnumber males? However women d.n.a are changing to where they’re producing more testosterone. The modern day woman isn’t docile anymore.
Women may be more masculine now but thats just temperament. Females are more receptive to BS, in general, like entertainment and pretty colors. An alpha male is way more dangerous to the status quo because men like to challenge things that dont make sense. Women are hardwired to seek security, therefore out of fear, they will try to uphold the status quo. The simple solution is ti turn off wifi when you are not using it and use the CAT5 cable as much as possible. Turn your router off at night. You will actually sleep better.
I can’t disagree with your point on the women. And you’re right. I found myself sleeping better at night when I unplugged my t.v, computer, and other major appliances at night besides the stove, refrigerator and phone charger.
@prince I’m not even a alpha male, but every time I go against the status quo or be assertive, the women around me always want to argue and be combative because they fear change or fear coming out their comfort zone, and all i’m trying to do is advance, lol. Not all women are like this but it’s too damn many who are, lol. Didn’t mean to sway from the main topic of the discussion.
You didnt sway. What you said is all a part of this. The more damaged sperm there is, the less men there will be and also a weaker strain of females. Look at women are developing more fatal sicknesses at a younger age
@prince&antonioduan Deep sh!t right thurr, learned sumthin’ new today, good lookin’ out
Its not just man and laptops its anything that involves radio frequency radiation. A simple remedy is to place the laptop on a table or cushion between your lap. Mad proz for posting this article. I read something similar on yahoo earlier this in regard to the negative effects of wireless devices in our households. Granted I can’t recall all of the details but baby monitors are the absolute worst because the r.f.radiation completely penetrate the infants brain which doesn’t fully develop til the age of 20.
Yeah, not only wireless but almost any electronic device emit radioactive waves:t,v’s, cell phones, radios, ipods, and computers emit the highest waves. Even the sun emits ultra violent light rays which is radiation is small forms. However radiation is only dangerous if you’re exposed to it for a long period of time like talking on the cell phone for hours. i.e the brain doesn’t fully develop until age 25. But I’m not surprised radio waves has the power to kill sperm.
This was the plan all along…………look up georgia guidestones
Interesting nuggets on this post.
I’m RESPECT tha Research, but Hahz…Fellas..Makes U Wonder Is It Safe 2 jack-off those “Thickness Thursday top-20 pics” hahz be post’n wit ur laptop DAT CLOSE to your thighs!! LMFAO……..STILL LMFAO!! TALK ABOUT A D.H.V.-DIGITAL HOMEFESSIONAL VASECTOMY
I better stand at least 10 feet away from the screen from now on.
