A “Pole Dancer” doll highlighted on the Internet over the weekend has caused a stir on parenting, conservative and gossip Web sites.

The tech blog Gizmodo posted an image of the new “Pole Dancer” doll that comes with blinking lights, a disco ball and a pole. The text on the packaging describes the doll as “interesting.” “up and down” and “go round and round.” Gizmodo wrote, “And it’s probably one of the wrongest toys you can give to any girl.” There was no information about the manufacturer of the doll.

Parentdish tried unsuccessfully to locate one of the dolls. They posted an e-mail from Gizmodo which explained that the doll was likely “the typical Chinese-made product you can only find in low cost stores.”

Another parenting site, Strollerderby , noted that parents have something else to worry about and wrote, “Who knew we’d actually find dolls that make Bratz look old-fashioned and wholesome?”

Conservative pundit and author, Michelle Malkin , also wrote about the item on her blog and titled it a “culture outrage.” Hollywood gossip site Perez Hilton asked, “What is the world coming to?!?”

In 2006 a pole dancing kit for children was pulled after outrage from parents in the United Kingdom. The “Peekaboo pole” featured a chrome pole and a DVD with music and dance moves.

Teen superstar Miley Cyrus performed a pole dance atop an ice cream cart last month at the Teen Choice Awards show casuing parents to wonder if she went to far. ( See the clip here .)

Another doll, the “Cuddle with Me” doll, was recently pulled from the shelves of Costco for being racially insensitive. Source

Would you let your daughter play with this doll?
