Naughton explained: “I actually went to Brooklyn, spent a lot of time right on St. James and where they grew up. Talked to Lil’Cease, Money L, Nino. The guys from Junior MAFIA were the main source of information that I had. So I just used all of my resources, unfortunately none of them were Lil’Kim, but I used everything I had to dig deep.”

The actress added that she reached out to Lil’Kim several times. She explained: “I never got a, I never got a response. I tried numerously, you know, to try to reach out. That would have been a pleasure but I’m more concerned about if the people get the story and if I brought her to life. That’s all that really matters to me right now.”

Lil Kim recently shared that she was disappointed with Naughton’s casting and she placed the blame on Faith Evans and the Notorious BIG’s mother, Voletta Wallace. She told Hip Hop Weekly, “I’m very disappointed in Faith.There’s nothing Faith or Ms. Wallace could do to stop me from reppin’B.I.G. all day. I’m gonna always do that … It’s time for Ms. Wallace to be exposed.”

Evans issued a response that read, “As far as the film goes, I was neither a writer nor producer of the film. I really had nothing to do with it at all … Maybe she thinks that, but that’s incorrect. It’s Ms. Wallace’s project.”
