Mother of Eddy Curry’s Son Found Murdered
The mother of ex-Bulls player Eddy Curry’s toddler son and her infant daughter were found Saturday fatally shot in her South Loop apartment, a source confirmed.
Police are searching for a “known acquaintance” of the woman in connection with the homicides.
Curry, who now plays for the New York Knicks, was in Philadelphia Saturday for a game. He was back in New York later that evening, distraught and contemplating a trip to Chicago, the source said.
Nova Henry, 24, and her infant daughter, Ava, were found at about 6 p.m. in the 0-99 block of West 15th Street, police said. Officers found Henry’s 3-year-old son — Curry’s, according to the source — in the Burnham Station apartment unharmed.
Henry’s mother found her daughter and granddaughter in the apartment, officials said.
A source close to Curry — a married father of four — said the basketball player maintains that he is not the father of Ava Henry.
Court records show that Nova Henry filed two separate petitions to establish parentage in November 2005 and September 2008.
The source said that Curry is very active in his son’s life.
A man who identified himself as Henry’s uncle said she had been having domestic problems with a boyfriend, but police would not comment. The uncle also said that Nova Henry’s grandmother’s funeral took place Saturday.
Patrick Sullivan, 30, who said he lives in the building a few doors away from the victim’s second-floor unit, said the victims moved in about two months ago, but he didn’t recall ever seeing them around.
Several hours after the bodies were found, police still had the area cordoned off, and a bus believed to be holding relatives and friends of the victims was parked nearby.
Curry, who was traded by the Bulls to the Knicks in October 2005, has had a tumultuous month.
On Monday, Curry’s former limousine driver made allegations of sexual harassment and racial discrimination in an explosive lawsuit. The suit alleges the athlete made unwelcome sexual advances, once pointed a gun at him, performed “invidious and intentional acts of discrimination,” and subjected him to “derogatory, abusive, anti-Semitic epithets.”
In July 2007, Curry and his family were robbed at gunpoint in his Burr Ridge home. Several masked men made off with jewelry and cash after they broke into his home and restrained him, family members and an employee with duct tape.
The robbers took Curry and his wife separately around the house to point out their jewelry and cash.
