I’m a big fan of Jay-Z, but outside of the States and hip-hop circles, no one really knew who he was until he married Beyonce’. He’s right. Initially, Jay-Z made Beyonce. But once she garnered critical acclaim, it became more of a beauty and the beast situation. That’s why the people in London were upset when they tapped him to be the headliner. They were like “Who??? Why???” The mainstream press didn’t give him any real press until she came along. I would say he catapulted her to stardom, but she made him more invitable into the homes of white aristocrats, socialites, diplomats, philanthropists, and other black-tie events. Before Beyonce, Jay-Z couldn’t get to the Oscars.

i agree with the above, ( suzanne ), shes was already excepted globally, when we was just rapping an mentioning how abroad he was which in fact she has been global for quite some time……peep, shes always been the classy chic that she is before jay right? well during his rapping error he was still wearing throw back jerseys bling and doo-rags…..it wasnt until he had gotten w/ her that he began to ” change clothes” i guess to fit in………………………………im just saying!

The fact that they are a couple made his celebrity story more compelling and also granted him exposure to the main stream(White America). Peace Fam
