Inmate Accused Of Hiding Gun In Body Cavity

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — Authorities say medical officials found no signs of injury during an exam of a Georgia man who is suspected of smuggling a handgun into a North Carolina jail in his rectum.

Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown told The Daily News of Jacksonville that a medical exam on Friday showed that 22-year-old Michael Leon Ward of Canton, Ga., had suffered no injuries according to AJC.

Deputies said last week a gun was found inside the cell of Ward, who used another person’s identity when he was booked. Authorities wanted medical officials to evaluate Ward for possible injuries to his rectum, where deputies think he concealed the unloaded .38-caliber, six-barrel revolver.

North Carolina deputies stopped Ward last week for speeding. He is wanted on a felony charge in Georgia. Ward was being held at the Onslow County jail without bond.
